Plans are progressing for the transformation of my current, traditional house to a very modern home designed by architect Henry Tenser. The plans have not been finalized, but the result will be amazing.
As you can see from the photos above, the current house is a cottage style home that is about 1000sf with 2 bedrooms and one bath. The plans will add a second story to the house, expand the garage, and bump out the back to create a "river room" which will better capture the incredible views from the back of the house to the woods and river. I am also going to try to make the house as energy efficient as possible, perhaps with solar hot water, and definitely with a large cistern for rainwater collection to be used for irrigation and potentially for use in the toilets. Details of this will be covered in later posts, so stay tuned!
While the house is located in Westover Hills, one of Richmond's oldest suburbs that is generally populated with Georgain, Colonial, Craftsman and Tudor architecture, there have been a few modern in fill houses built recently, which seem to blend in to the surroundings.
Ideally, construction will commence in early spring 2011. In future posts, I'll include the final drawings and details.
